Introduction
African Heritage Music and Dance Society (AHMADS) is committed to honouring the Indigenous peoples whose lands we work, learn, and create on. As a cultural organization rooted in heritage and community, our work is enriched by our relationships with Indigenous nations, artists, knowledge keepers, and performers.
Full Land Acknowledgement
AHMADS acknowledges that we are on Treaty 6 Territory, a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and travelling route for many Indigenous peoples. The land on which AHMADS operates is the home of the Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux, and Nakota Sioux, as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta and many other Indigenous peoples.
We recognize that Indigenous peoples have cared for and inhabited Turtle Island since time immemorial.
We honour their histories, cultures, and living traditions, and we commit to building respectful, ongoing relationships grounded in cultural exchange, understanding, and mutual respect.
Our Commitment
At AHMADS, we are committed to:
• Honouring Indigenous cultural protocols
• Creating safe and inclusive spaces for Indigenous artists
• Supporting Indigenous representation in music and dance
• Building long-term collaborations
• Listening, learning, and growing in our practices
• Ensuring our work reflects respect for the land and its peoples
